September 3rd. National Stitch Day. Star Stitchers EGA (Embroiderers Guild of America) will be at the Moneta Library demonstrating their work to enhance public awareness. The LQG would also be welcome there that day. Contact Melissa Hizy if you'd like to join them. mhizy@prodigy.net

September 13. Harvest Time Festival at Booker T. Washington National Park, Hardy, VA. 10am-4pm. Living History Farm demonstrations highlight the lifestyles of those who lived and worked on small Virginia tobacco plantations in the mid-19th century. LQG members have been invited to demonstrate hand quilting. If you wish to participate contact Susan Palmer.

October 4-5. Floyd Quilt Show presented by Old Church Gallery Quilters Guild, Floyd Elementary School Cafeteria, Floyd, VA. Sat. 9am-5pm. Sun. 12 noon-5pm.

October 27, 2007. Mountain Comforts Quilt Show XIX at the Ferrum College/Blue Ridge Institute Folklife Festival http://www.blueridgeinstitute.org./festivals.htm. Lake Quilter's Guild members took many ribbons. View a slide show of their winning entries. If I missed anyone I apologize. In the Young Quilters' Division Julia Assaid, granddaughter of Ruth Ann Assaid, won First Place. I did not get a photo of her quilt. (BB)

July 27, 2007. Jamestown Commemorative Quilt Contest sponsored by Old Trinity Schoolhouse Quilt Shop.The winners and show highlights can be currently viewed on the Trinity Schoolhouse website at http://www.trinityquilts.com/content.php?content_id=55 Our own Jean Hensley won the General Commemorative Quilt category for her quilt "Charming Jamestown." June 15-17, 2007. Blue Ridge Quilt Festival Blacksburg, VA. You can see photos of previous festivals and winning quilts at their website.

April 2007. View a slide show of the 2006 Challenge Quilts exhibited at the Franklin County Library. The slide show was originally created in Power Point by Marilyn Amerson of Franklin County Library and distributed on CD to the Challenge 2006 participants. Each frame includes the song title and the name of the person who made the quilt. Your webmaster has converted it to a PDF file. The easiest way to view each quilt is to click the down arrow on the right scroll bar. Click the arrow once to proceed to the next quilt. There are 32 frames.

March 24, 2007 was National Quilting Day. LQG held an event to honor the occasion. Guilds within a 100 mile radius were invited. It was held from am to 3pm at Resurrection Church (Moneta). There were venders and Augusta Cole was the guest speaker. Sandy Horan and Alba Papa created a raffle quilt made from irregular blocks- View Raffle Quilt. View a slide show of the event. February 22-25, 2007 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival XVIII, Hampton, Virginia. Thirty quilts from the LQG Challenge 2006 were on special exhibition. The Challenge was entitled "There's a Song on My Quilt." Each quilt represented a different song title. View Slide Show of LQG Exhibit. Slide show will open in a new window and pictures will automatically progress at 5 second intervals. You may progress at your own pace or select pause at anytime.

October 18, 28, 2006. The18th Mountain Comforts Show and 33rd Blue Ridge Folk life Festival. Hopefully 2006 Mountain winners will be posted. 2005 Winners are listed. Lake Quilters who received ribbons are Pat Mohler, Antique Quilt Runner-Up; Mary Johnson, Hand Quilting for her whole cloth quilt "Bed of Roses;" Tina Dietz, Judges Special Recognition for playfulness and using up her stash for "Lois' Fish Quilt;" Rose Marie Jones, 1st Place Pieced, "Impressions of Provence;" Marie Schoepke, 2nd Place Applique for "Prairie Flowers;" Elaine Klos, 3rd Place Applique for "Country Sophisticate with Burgundy;" Kinza Pickelsimer, 1st Place Combination for "Home is Where the Heart Is;" Lucy Ricardo, 1st Place Miniature for "Golden Challenge, Yo-yo Hexagon;" Marcia Wright, 2nd Place Miniature for "Springfield Court;" Joyce Moorman, 1st Place Duet for "Fanfare;" Jean Hensley, Honorable Mention for "Postcards from the Blue Ridge;" Samantha Nussbaum, granddaughter of Marcia Wright, Young Quilter's, Older Division, 3rd Place for "Friendship Star;" and Julia Assaid, granddaughter of Ruth Ann Assaid, Younger Division, 1st Place for "My Diamond Patch."

October 7-8, 2006. Floyd County Woman's Club Arts and Crafts Fair Quilt Show presented by Old Church Gallery Quilters Guild. Ribbon winners from LQG include: Mary Johnson for her whole cloth quilt "Bed of Roses," Sandra Ferguson for "In the Garden," Lucy Ricardo for her wall quilt "A Storm of Purple Passion," and Joyce Moorman for her black and gold "English Garden."

April 27-30. Celebration 2006 sponsored by the Virginia Consortium of Quilters took place at Smith Mountain Lake 4-H Conference Center. Janie Lawless reports on the event.

Oct. 22, 2005. The Mountain Comforts XVII Quilt Show, at Ferrum College was a great success. It is a judged show with cash prizes. Many of the Lake Quilters Guild members participated. The Guild members out-did themselves... here are the winners and photos of their entries...
