December 2015 Luncheon
December
Slideshow. Our Holiday Luncheon was held at the Waterfront
Country Club. Besides enjoying a great buffet lunch with our
friends, we viewed and voted on the 2015 Challenge "25"
entries, observed our Annual Ornament Exchange, and honored all
those who served the guild in 2015. We also inducted our new
2016 officers. Our table centerpieces were provided by the Shady

November
Slideshow. Our Presenter was LQG Member Stephanie Schaefer.
It was a make and take session featuring the Pineapple Block.
Stephanie made kits for all of us with precut fabric and a marked
pattern. The program was followed by member Show and Tell. The
Featured Bee of the Month was the Sunshine Bee. (To

Slideshow. Our guest speaker was Penny Mezzano from Lynchburg.
She provided us with a Trunk Show of the many quilts she has
made over the past 22 years. Penny works primarily with her own
designs using traditional piecing. The program was followed by

Slideshow. Our guest speaker and workshop leader was Sandy
Fitzpatrick of Hissyfitz Designs. Sandy provided us with handy
quilting and sewing tips, and a trunk show of her applique quilts
using her charming and unique designs. Her Monday workshop was
"Me and My Peeps." The program was followed by member

Slideshow. Our presenter was Lori Clayton, owner of Threads
Run Thru It. Members rotated between three stations demontrating
quick methods to make beautiful holiday gifts.

Laura Blanchard of Plum Tree Quilts. On Monday Barbara taught
a workshop featuring a Reversible Strippy

Slideshow. Our presenter and workshop leader for May was
Barbara Cline. She gave a slideshow on the "Where, When
and Why of Quilting" and then a trunk show highlighting
the quilts featured in her books. After the trunk show we had
member Show and Tell. The Featured Bee of the Month was the Southside
Bee. On Wednesday Barbara taught a workshop on "Spinning

Slideshow. Our presenter and workshop leader for April was
Laura Post from Batiks Etcetera and Sew What Fabrics in Wytheville,
VA. She taught a morning workshop on "Free Form Curves"
and gave a program lecture on "What to Do with Panels."

LQG Member Cindy Clark. Cindy taught a workshop featuring "Watercolor"
wall hangings. Her program presentation showed us "How to

Charity Sew-in

Slideshow. From 9am-2pm members worked on charity items.
This year the main emphasis was on bears. We also held a Silent
Auction and Raffle to raise money for future Speakers and Workshop
leaders. We celebrated the Guild's 25th Anniversary and were
especially fortunate to have with us the guild's first president,

Slideshow. Avis
Withers, a member of the guild, presented a program entitled "An
Ascent into Craziness." Avis has an extensive background
in hand and machine sewing, and is a trained sewing instructor
for many well-known sewing companies and organizations. Avis
also led a workshop entitled "A Little Touch of Craziness."
The presentation by Avis was followed by Show and Tell. A record

December 2014 Holiday
Luncheon
December
Slideshow. Our December Luncheon was held at the Waterfront
Country Club on December 9th. Eighty-seven members attended.
We also held our Challenge Viewing and Voting, our Ornament Exchange,
the induction of new officers, recognition of all those who served
the guild in 2014, and gifts for block of the month participants.

November
Slideshow. Our program was an in house trunk show
led by Denise Pilversack, VP of Programs.
The program was entitled "Quilts
Tell a Story (You never know where a quilt will end up)."
Members who showed their quilts were Denise Pilversack, Becky
Linkous, Bettie Cerul, Pat Blice, Kate Holdgreve, and Bonnie

Falls, NC, presented a morning workshop entitled "Hot Flash
Hunter's Star," and a 1pm trunk show. The program was followed

color and design for our quilts. Paula also led a Monday workshop

Slideshow. Kathy
Berinholtz, a local fiber artist, presented a lecture on "Hand
Dyed Fabrics". She explained several ways you can add color
and interesting details to our fabric for quilting. Kathy has
a shop called "Vermillion" located inside the Artfully
Framed shop here at the lake. The program was followed

Slideshow. Lori Clayton of Threads Run Through It taught
an all day workshop on July 21. The workshop featured a new technique
for cutting curves with a rotary cutter. Lori also presented
a program on making perfect points on July 22. The program was
followed by Show and Tell. The featured Bee of the Month was

Meeting.
June
Slideshow. This was a combined May and June meeting which
took place on June 3. Our first guest speaker was Daina Kubasak,
Gold Star Mother. Daina gave a presentation of Memorial Quilts
made in honor of her son, Cpl. Jared Kubasak. Our second presenter
was Jerry Witt of Creative Stitches in Lynchburg. He spoke about
the "care and feeding" of our machines. The program
was followed by Show and Tell. The Bee of the Month was Kept
in Stitches. 71 members attended. (To

Slideshow. The morning workshop was "Time to Sit Pin
Cushion Buddy," a Make and Take project with Vicki Seekford
and Lori Suon of the General Store. Lori and Vicki also led our
afternoon program which was a Recap of the Quilt Show. Members
showed the quilts they had entered in the Quilt Show and Vicki
and Lori announced the Viewer's Choice Winners and presented
prizes. The program was followed by Show and Tell. The Bee of

Charity Sew-in.
February
Slideshow. From 9am-2pm members worked on charity items.
The main emphasis was on bears and pillow pals. At the end of
the day there were 275 bears stuffed and ready to donate to local
charities. According to Sandra Ferguson, we also got in 11 quilts,
6 totes and 6 wheelchair bags, several pillowcases, and we made
25 pillow pals. We have 65 bears that we didn't get stuffed,
and a number of folks took bears home that had been cut out but
not sewn together. It was quite a day!! Sandra also provided
the photos used in the slide show. Jennifer Jones sent in a photo
of our Founder's Day cake. It was our 24th birthday. (To

Slideshow. Our morning workshop was "Shabby Chic Rose"
and our afternoon program was "Making It Yours." Both
were presented by guild members Becky Linkous and Denise Pilversack.The
program demonstrated how to take a pattern and see beyond the
sample to create an individualized quilt. The program was followed
